Notre-Dame Cathedral and belfry
The Notre-Dame Cathedral of Évreux impresses with its seven centuries of successive building: a slender spire, superb stained glass and a north portal sculpted like a jewel. Opposite, the Gothic belfry and its clock tower have been ringing their bells since the 15th century. Walking around these monuments together, then stepping in to listen to the organ, sets a peaceful stage for a history-filled encounter.
Ramparts walk along the Iton
The Iton, a small canalised river, crosses Évreux splitting into several branches. The Ramparts walk follows one of them, shaded by plane trees, between flower gardens and vestiges of the Gallo-Roman wall. A bench, an iced coffee, and the conversation settles quietly. Morning joggers, weekend families and evening strollers cross paths unhurried, in a very green setting.
Place du Général-de-Gaulle and Saint-Taurin
Place du Général-de-Gaulle, a large esplanade lined by the town hall and its paths, hosts markets and lively terraces. Nearby, Saint-Taurin Church keeps the medieval shrine of the patron saint, a masterpiece of goldsmithing. Rue Chartraine, pedestrian, lines up shops and cafés. On Lyad, members from Évreux share their favourite centre addresses; it is up to you to find someone to discover them with.
